Morningside

Leafy, established and self-contained, on the south side of the city.

The feel

Morningside grew as a Victorian suburb and still has that settled, residential quality. Morningside Road provides almost everything day to day, from independent shops and cafés to the Dominion, a family-run cinema.

Green space is never far away: Blackford Hill, the Hermitage of Braid and the Braid Hills all sit just to the south.

The homes

Handsome sandstone tenements line the main roads, with generous flats that often have original features intact. On the side streets you'll find terraced, semi-detached and detached Victorian and Edwardian villas, many with good-sized gardens.

Getting about

Frequent buses run along Morningside Road into the city centre, and Bruntsfield and the Meadows are an easy walk north.

Who it suits

Families looking for space and gardens, and buyers who want a calm, established neighbourhood with a proper high street of its own.
